Chadron State College President Dr. Janie Park reports that the institution has reached the half-way point of its student information system upgrade, but said the most difficult portion of the implementation remains ahead.

Among the most significant hurdles will be getting current students registered for the fall semester. For this year only, CSC has moved its registration from its usual February period to April 5 when the new system is ready. Park and other college officials are hopeful that the registration function is implemented on time and students will be able to secure their needed courses before the spring semester ends Friday, May 7.

“It would be disastrous for us if we didn’t get all of our students registered during that short time,” Park said. “If they leave campus and aren’t registered for the fall, then we’ve got a big problem.”

Park noted that all three colleges of the Nebraska State College System and four institutions of the University of Nebraska system are “in the same boat” and will be registering at nearly the same time.

The president encouraged students to study the course schedule, which will be released in March, and meet with advisors to select courses before registration opens in April. Usernames and passwords for TrueYou, an identity management system that applies to all seven institutions, have been sent to CSC students’ college e-mail, or Eaglemail, accounts.

A number of the new system’s features have gone live since last fall, including functions for admissions, financial aid records and, most recently, housing. The billing component will start up this summer and the entire system is scheduled to be operating by the fall semester.

The new system, the Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise Campus Solutions application, was chosen by the Nebraska State College System and the University of Nebraska in September 2008. It has been named the Nebraska Student Information System, or NeSIS. The NSCS and the university opted to implement a new student information system in 2007 after they were advised the systems in place would not be supported after 2011.

More information about NeSIS is available at the project’s Web site, accessible by clicking on the NeSIS logo at CSC’s homepage, 1v.wxzjnt.com.
