Jazz on tap in coming week

Published:

Chadron State College is the place to be for jazz lovers in the coming week.

The CSC Jazz Band will play in the Student Center cafeteria Wednesday, March 16, from 5-6 p.m. In addition, the music department will host its annual CSC Jazz Festival for area schools on Monday, March 21.

The festival will bring 14 high school and middle school groups to campus from Nebraska and Wyoming. The groups will perform from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the CSC Professors of Jazz take the stage at Memorial Hall. In addition, the CSC Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform at 11:30 a.m. in Memorial Hall and the CSC Jazz Band will play at 1 p.m. in the Student Center ballroom. All of the performances are open to the public free of charge.

The Jazz Band’s cafeteria performance will feature a variety of styles, but highlights music from the Count Basie and Duke Ellington libraries.

“We are anxious to get out and play,” said Dr. Michael Stephens, the Jazz Band’s director. “The band has been working hard and we have plenty of new material to share.”
