CHADRON – Chadron State College student BreAnne Benson of West Fargo, North Dakota, has written freelance articles for several regional rodeo publications. She will graduate in May with a Communication Arts degree with an emphasis in journalism and media production. She transferred to CSC from Valley City State University in North Dakota when she decided to change majors from music to journalism.

CHADRON – Nearly 100 students participated in the Seventh Annual Best of the West Business Competition at CSC Wednesday. High school students attended from Alliance, Chadron, Hay Springs, Hemingford, Omaha North, Sidney, and Valentine. President Ron K. Patterson delivered the opening welcome.

CHADRON – Chadron State College students Michael Andersen of Chadron, Trevor Eisenbraun of Norfolk, Neb., Mekenna Fisher of Hershey, Neb., and Kourtney Kronhofman of Chadron recently competed at the Society for Range Management’s (SRM) annual international conference in Sparks Nevada Jan. 28-Feb. 2. The CSC team in the problem-solving competition, the Rangeland Cup, placed second. Fisher placed first in Extemporaneous Speaking.

CHADRON – Nearly 130 high school musicians gathered at CSC last week for the 52nd High Plains Band and Choir Festival. Following workshops and rehearsals on Monday and Tuesday, the band and choir presented a public concert Tuesday evening. The Honor Band Guest Conductor was Dr. Frank Tracz, Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Kansas State University.

CHADRON – For Black History Month, the Chadron State College Art Department will host a show in Memorial Hall’s Main Gallery featuring the work of the late William Artis who taught at CSC from 1954 to 1965. The show will be open from Feb. 8 to March 8 with a reception in Memorial Hall’s Lobby on Feb. 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. A book, Uncovering Uncle William, written about Artis by his niece, Dr. Shirley Jones, will be available for sale.

CHADRON – The Chadron State College Theatre Department will present highlights of 37 Shakespeare plays including comedies, histories, and tragedies in 97 minutes. The director of the Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), CSC alum Zackary Wellnitz, said the production was written in 1984.

CHADRON – The spring Graves Lecture Series at Chadron State College will begin March 19. The speakers will be Dr. Susan Rolfsmeier and senior Emmanuella Tchona of Benin in West Africa. Both events will be in the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center at 7 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

CHADRON – Chadron State College is introducing CSC Grows, a new collaborative agricultural project between the President’s Cabinet, CSC Food Pantry, and CSC Wellness. CSC Grows is an indoor garden project where fresh produce will be grown on campus to be distributed to students at the CSC Food Pantry.
